Ditchburn & Mare Shipbuilders. Founded in Deptford in 1837 they moved to Orchard Place, Poplar in 1838. Ditchburn retired in 1847 and the company continued as CJ Mare & Co. In 1847 land was purchased on the Essex side of Bow Creek and the company operated a ferry between their two sites. |
