Programme (1980) from New Half Moon Theatre 213 Mile End
Road.
The Half Moon Repertory Theatre was founded in 1972 when local theatre artists
took over a disused synagogue in Aldgate, near Half Moon Passage. In 1979
they moved to the old Welsh Methodist Chapel in Mile End Road converting
the building to a modern theatre. They lost their funding when the GLC was
abolished, and went into voluntary liquidation in 1989. The building is
now a Wetherspoons pub.
Half Moon Young People's Theatre was subsequently established as an Independent
Limited Company in 1990 and gained charitable status. It is based in White
Horse Lane, Limehouse.
