CREWE AND DISTRICT COIN AND MEDAL SOCIETY

OBJECT OF THE SOCIETY

“To provide for its members a means of communication in order that through mutual helpfulness they will improve their overall knowledge of Numismatics.”

 

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month excluding the months of January and July.


The venue is the Wistaston Memorial Hall, Church Lane, Wistaston, Crewe commencing at 7.30pm.


New Members or Casual Visitors (who may be interested in a particular lecture) are
ALWAYS WELCOME.

Membership is 20 and and 15 members regularly attend.
The society bi-annually holds what must be one of the best Club Coin Fairs around.
These being extremely popular with members and dealers alike.

 

We have recently celebrated our 500th meeting which was well reported in the pages of Coin News and as a result we gained some new members.

 

Subscriptions (Which are due in February)

Adult £6.00. Combined Husband and Wife £6.00. Junior (under 16) Free.
Light Refreshment are provided free at meetings.

 

The competition for the Inter-Counties Numismatic Quiz Trophy has been running for over 30 years.
Those currently competing for this trophy are:

All the competitions are held at Crewe by general agreement. Crewe being geographically convenient formost competitors.
Any other Society wishing to take part in this annual event will be welcomed.

January                No meeting this month.
   
February 9th Operation Andreas and Bernhardt - Notes that the Bank of England did not make.
an illustrated presentation by Mr. Chris Leather. Subscriptions are due tonight. (DR)
   
March 8th Auction of Coins, Tokens and Medals etc.
7pm for members with lots to enter in the sale otherwise 7.30pm prompt. All lots must be open for inspection and will be sold “as seen”. Will you please make a special effort to bring along lots to enter in the sale and also do not forget to bring some money to enable you to take part in the bidding! (DR)
Please note that subscriptions are now overdue and only fully paid up members can take part in the auction. Members of other societies affiliated to BANS may take part without restriction.
   
April 12th 101 Things to do with Coins.
A presentation by Dr Kevin Clancy, Director of the Royal Mint Museum at Llantrisant. (DR)
   
May 10th Crewe Spring Coin Fair - Members of all Numismatic Societies and guests of club members are invited to take up a free stall. Refreshments provided. An event not to be missed - tens of thousands of coins, medals and tokens etc. for sale (MH)
   
June 14th The Inter-Counties Numismatic Quiz The holder of the trophy is the Crewe Society. The questions this year are due to be set by the South Manchester Society. (DR)
   
July There is no meeting this month.
   
August 9th The Battle of Nantwich.
An illustrated lecture by Manchester University Historian, Clare Pye. (DR)
   
September 13th “From Copper to Velvet” - How a token can take you around the World.
A talk by Mr. Ian Doughty, Chairman and Collections Manager of the Congleton Museum. (DR)
   
October 11th Crewe Autumn Coin Fair Members of all Numismatic Societies and guests of club members are invited to take up a free stall. Refreshments provided . An event not to be missed - tens of thousands of coins, medals, and tokens etc. for sale. (MH)
   
November 8th English Milled Shillings.
A presentation by Steve Bentley. (DR)
   
December 13th AGM followed by Member’s Short Talks. This competition is for the best fifteen minute talk on a subject of numismatic interest.
A trophy will be presented to the winner to hold for 12 months. (DR)
