6 and 8 pint jugs are much scarcer than the smaller sizes. Their manufacture may have been discontinued at the end of the 19th century, I have certainly seen no examples marked Royal Doulton. I have two examples of 6 pints size, both impressed with the second mark (oval without Limited) but exhibiting minor differences. This example is typical of the well made, mass produced Doulton. The other has a slightly cruder, more salt glazed appearance. They may represent the common and fine clay manufacture mentioned in early catalogues. The only significantly varying sprig is the facing Toby.
