Denby produced a series of jugs with a large rectangular panel copying the Modern Midnight Conversation sprig found on late 18th century Mortlake jugs. These are not mentioned in the books on Denby by Graham and Alva Key (1995) and Irene and Gordon Hopwood (1997). One of them has MORTLOCK'S / OXFORD ST impressed on the table of the Midnight Conversation sprig, possibly indicating they were intended to advertise the antiquity of that firm (1746 to 1932) and possibly also be a play on their name (Mortlock/Mortlake). The colour and windmill indicates 20th century production and the inscription implies a date before 1920 (when Mortlock moved from Oxford Street).
